We received word over the weekend that Average Joe's Bicycles BMX forum was going off-line. Average Joe's was very popular with Colorado BMXers and people were bummed to hear that it was going the way of leg warmers and parachute pants. After some thought and a few gentle pushes by some forum members, team managers, Brad Spalding and Chris Kuzma decided to create a new virtual home for Colorado BMXers. Our initial thought was that we would put up a standard php forum site and then build a BMX website around the forum. After doing some testing, we found the perfect solution in the social networking platform Ning. Long story short, over the course of a couple of days, a new social network/forum was created for our BMX friends and family, www.thebmxdirt.com. The response has been amazing and fellow riders, teams and tracks have all taken to creating the own user profiles and groups. It will be interesting to see how the site grows as the race season begins to heat up. One thing is for sure. The conversations will be lively!
